Doctoral Thesis in Medicine

I am thrilled to share that I successfully defended my Doctoral Thesis in Medicine on December 23, 2024, at the Faculty of Medicine of Sousse, achieving the highest honors congratulations from the jury and my nomination for the thesis award! πŸŽ“

My thesis, titled "Implication of Genetic Variants of MIR146A and TRAF6 in Type 2 Diabetes and its Complications in the Tunisian Population," delves into the multifactorial nature of Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), characterized by chronic low-grade inflammation primarily mediated by the NF-ΞΊB pathway.

This research highlights how genetic variants, particularly SNPs rs2910164 of MIR146A and rs540386 of TRAF6, may influence susceptibility to T2D and its progression. We conducted a case-control study involving 134 T2D patients and 227 healthy controls. Genotyping was performed with Mutagenically Separated Polymerase Chain Reaction (MS-PCR).

Although no significant association was found between these SNPs and T2D, we discovered correlations with certain clinical manifestations, cardiovascular risk, delay of some complications and its severity.

These findings underscore the potential involvement of MIR146A and TRAF6 in T2D progression, paving the way for improved disease management strategies. However, further prospective validation is essential before therapeutic applications can be considered.

Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout this journey! 🌟
